Stallholder Profile Ruby Roo Crafts

Stallholder Profile is Barbara from Ruby Roo

Name:   Barbara Smith

Business name:  Kaszazz at ruby-roo

Suburb/town :   Warnbro WA

What is it that you make and what skills do you use?
Card making, scrapbooking, papercrafts, using fabulous Kaszazz papercrafting products which I sell as an independent consultant.  I am also a complete Christmas addict and make festive goodies including stockings and cushions, reindeer food and pots of snow!

What inspired you to start your business?
A love of making things and meeting like-minded people.

How long have you been ‘creating’?
From when I was first allowed to use scissors at a very young age.

Is it a full time/ part time/hobby or business?
Part time hobby business.

Where do you sell your creations?
Online and at markets etc, and soon at The Handmade Expo, lol.  Obviously I am booked in for all 5 markets at Rockingham.  I also attend local fairs, mainly around Christmas time.  I run workshops from home and sell my Kaszazz products through those as well.  I have a regularly updated Facebook page, where you can get my news and see some of the things I've been making.

What makes what you do special or different?
Apart from my ambition to make everybody love Christmas as much as me, my commitment is to provide high quality goods at competitive prices, and make sure my workshops give people the chance to have a go at something new without needing to lay out huge amounts of money.  I also encourage the use of glitter, lots of glitter, a bit of sparkle is wonderful.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?
Seeing absolute beginners, or people who are a little afraid of trying something new, make something absolutely beautiful that they are proud of.

What is your favourite product that you make?
Christmas cards, followed closely by all other kinds of cards!!

Do you teach classes or workshops?
I hold small group workshops which means everyone gets to have a go at everything, and there's plenty of time for chat and questions.  My Kaszazz workshops are very informal but structured, and the results are fantastic - even beginners will produce something wonderful.  I also hold regular Playtime sessions where people can just come and try different techniques, or make a scrapbook page or some cards for occasions they have coming up, which means it suits everybody.  I'm happy to run demonstrations or make and take sessions at people's homes, or for larger groups in an appropriate venue.  I just enjoy spreading the creative love!!
